My first week of training taught me a few hard & humbling lessons; take care of your body, rest days are important, don't do too much too fast, & swimming is not a substitute for stretching.
Monday: My week started off good...I swam with Emma and she she confirmed that swimming laps is hard work. Ha ha! And she was very impressed with my swimming abilities.
The kids were off for midterms, so after swimming, we went skiing. Alejandra loved skiing in VT. I skied all morning & spent the afternoon relaxing by the fire in the lodge.
Tuesday: The day I went too hard...I ran in the ice & rain and then even though my knee was bothering me and I know spinning hurts my knee...I went to a RPM with Emma. I've been wanting to get Emma to a spinning class and when she was willing to go, pain or pain, I wanted to go with her. She loved it & will definitely go back...without me.
Wednesday: After spending Tuesday evening icing my knee...I still woke up and swam...I was hoping swimming would feel good. It did at first but after I finished my knee hurt still.
But we completed an awesome interval workout & swam 1,000 yards in 28 minutes! I love my Wednesday morning swims with Shanna.
Thursday: REST DAY! ....and a chiropractor appointment. Thankfully Darryl assessed that my knee pain has nothing to with my actual knee, and is the result of sore, tight - under stretched muscles.
Friday: Strength & Suspension class at Peace of Mind Pilates. I avoided all jumping moves and my knee felt pretty good. I love that class!
Saturday: First "long run" of training with Lisa. We did 4 miles from her house. At our turn around at 2 miles my knee was starting to ache, but I stretched and it instantly felt better. We stopped again quickly at mile 3 and we finished the last mile strong! I love my long runs with Lisa. I never regret a run!
Sunday: Tomorrow I'll see how my knee is feeling & either do a long ride on my bike on the trainer or rest. UPDATE: I took a much needed rest day. Winter Ball was the night before and I had girls awake until 3 am at my house...a workout wasn't happening.
